Ropens
Long-tailed nocturnal pterosaurs
in Papua New Guinea

Other Pterosaur Sightings
Long-tailed featherless ropen-
like flying creatures have been
reported around the world,
including in states of the U.S.A.
How shocking was Susan Wooten’s sighting of a giant pterosaur be-
tween Columbia and Florence, in about 1986, on a remote highway
surrounded by some swamps and wooded areas of South Carolina!
That flying creature, according to the nonfiction-cryptozoology author
Jonathan Whitcomb, appears to be related to the ropen of the south-
west Pacific, perhaps even the same species.

Watch this Youtube comedy that starts with a
spoof of the old Dragnet TV series. It soon is
obvious, however, that this comedy video is
more about poking fun at Wikipedia. Who is
the star of the show? The victim: the ropen.
This is one of dozens of videos on this Youtube
channel Protect Animal Life.
This featherless flying creature is not confined
to Umboi Island, but its name comes from the
Kovai language of that tropical island.
Hodgkinson
Duane Hodginson's description of the giant "pterodactyl" he
and his buddy saw in 1944 demonstrates to recent researchers
that the two soldiers had seen a ropen. That does not mean,
however, that it must have been the exact same species as the
ropen seen more recently on Umboi Island.
Ropen — a live pterosaur
in Papua New Guinea
The late Duane Hodgkinson, seen here in 2004 near
Livingston, Montana, boldly proclaimed that he had
indeed seen a gigantic flying creature in New Guinea.
When Duane Hodgkinson was
a young man, few persons, if any,
believed him.
Hodgkinson continued to give
a powerful testimony of his
1944 encounter with a huge
flying creature that to many
recent investigators is an obvious
live pterosaur, notwithstanding
the Western dogma about univer-
sal extinctions of general types of
organisms.
Duane Hodgkinson was a flight instructor for many years, in
the United States, during the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
In 1944 he was stationed near Finschhafen, in what was then
called New Guinea. After he and his buddy walked into a
clearing, they were amazed as a large creature flew up into the
air. The men soon realized that it was no bird that ran to get
airborne, leaving the clearing. It had a tail “at least ten to
fifteen feet long,” (book Searching for Ropens and Finding
God, 2014, fourth edition) and a long appendage at the back
of its head: apparently, a living pterosaur.
Jonathan David Whitcomb, a forensic videographer,
interviewed Hodgkinson a number of times, finding his
testimony credible. In 2005, Garth Guessman, another ropen
investigator, in Montana video-taped his own interview with
Hodgkinson and the session was analyzed by Whitcomb, who
became even more convinced the World War II veteran was
telling the truth: The man had indeed seen a ropen.
Many species of pterosaur may have become extinct, but at
least a few of the two main types have survived. They are
sometimes called “pterodactyls,” “flying dinosaurs,”
“dinosaur birds,” or “dragons.”
On Umboi Island, the natives call a long-tailed nocturnal
glowing flying creature “ropen.” Whitcomb continues to
receive direct eyewitness reports of apparent pterosaurs
from around the world.
Is this flying creature, seen and sketched by the U.S. Marine
Eskin C. Kuhn, a ropen, like those seen in Papua New Guinea?
The two that Mr. Kuhn saw were flying in daylight, in Cuba.
His sighting is closely related to the one by Patty Carson, who
saw a “pterodactyl” in the same area of Cuba six years earlier.

flying over a bridge in central Arkansas (spring of 2012).

Professor Peter Beach was interviewed by Jonathan Whitcomb
by the Yakima River in southeastern Washington state.
The flying creatures observed by this former biology professor—
they were also seen by Milt Marcy, and a third man saw and
reported an apparent living pterosaur at that location, but his
encounter was in daylight.
These animals appear to be bioluminescent.
Live Pterosaurs in America, third edition, takes you on an adventure
of discovery: not fossil bones but eyewitness accounts of the living
creatures that fly overhead: modern pterosaurs in the United States,
in spite of extinction dogma. Marvel at eyewitness accounts in many
of the states: California, Texas, New Mexico, Florida, and other states.
From a Wordpress blog post by Chris Jensen Romer, on Oct 3, 2012:
“A Whole New Level of Weirdness: Book Review of ‘Live Pterosaurs
In America’ (3rd Ed.): “Whitcomb surprised me. A number of the
sightings suggest bioluminescence. I really did not expect that. . . .
I must applaud all the work Whitcomb and colleagues put in. . . .
I respect the work and dedication of these chaps . . .”
From the introduction in the new book Searching for Ropens and
Finding God: “This is not mainly about religion, not in the usual
sense. It’s less likely to take you to church than into the lives of
ordinary persons who have encountered extraordinary flying
creatures and into the lives of Christians who have risked their
health, even their lives, in searching for living pterosaurs.” [4th ed.]
This nonfiction book is the ultimate authority on these amazing
featherless flying creatures, most of which appear to be
Rhamphorhynchoid pterosaurs.
eyewitness Eskin Kuhn
Eskin Kuhn was alone near the
shore at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba,
when he saw two large flying
creatures pass by, not far from
where he was standing.
Within minutes, he sketched
those two “pterodactyls” and
we now know that he has
never been alone: Many of
the eyewitnesses have seen
these long-tailed creatures.
He is seen here in front of the house
owned by Mark Cow (or ‘Kau’), just
west of Gomlongon, Umboi Island.
Jonathan D. Whitcomb
Jonathan Whitcomb is not alone
in searching for living pterosaurs
in Papua New Guinea and in other
areas. Other explorers include,
but are not limited to, Professor
Peter Beach, Milt Marcy, Paul
Nation, Garth Guessman, and
David Woetzel.
Most of the apparent living
pterosaurs seen around the
world seem to be ropens.
