What is the main reason for marriage? It is God's way of continuing human life. With a father and mother, the child may be raised in the ideal family setting, with both marriage partners participating in the raising and nurturing. The full mental spectrum of male-parenting and female-parenting are thus available for the child.
Secondary purpose: strengthening traditional marriage
For those who are not able to naturally become parents, traditional marriage provides a way to enjoy that same relationship that would otherwise create human life. This strengthens society's continuation of the divinely appointed marriage relationship: husband and wife.
